One week left to enter

Greetings, swimmers! There’s now only one week left to put your name in for this year’s MDMS. Entries  will close at midnight next Wednesday (12 June). Unfortunately, no late entries can be accepted.

We have spaces for volunteers also! We are looking for onshore spotters who will be positioned at strategic points along the bank, kayakers (of Level 2 ability) and timekeepers. If you can fulfill any of these roles, get in contact with us and we’ll find some job for you!

Conditions are excellent on the River Blackwater at the moment – water temperatures of about 15ºC – and we hope that it will continue until the day of the event. We look forward to seeing you all then…

River Temperatures Rising!

Yesterday evening, Dave Mulcahy and Owen O’Keefe swam in the river for the first time in a month. The water temperature was about 6ºC when they were in on St. Patrick’s Day and the weren’t expecting any improvement on that temperature yesterday. They were pleasantly surprised, however, when there was a temperature rise of 2ºC or so. Sure, it helped that it was a beautiful sunny afternoon, but still, that 2ºC was a great improvement on the cold that was to be felt just a month ago.

As well as the rise in temperature, great progress is being made on the new slipway next to the Rowing Club. A lot of silt has settled on the slipway but that’s easily gotten rid of. We hope that this new slipway will be finished in time for this year’s event and, if it is, it’ll make it a lot easier and safer for people to get in and out of the river, especially during events.

Don’t forget that entries are open for the Martin Duggan Memorial Swim 2013 and that all you have to do to find out all information about entries is to go to our Entry page and see for yourself…
